In Bratislava’s University Hospital, connate twins were born on December 3. Immediately after their birth, they were taken for care at the Children’s Hospital. The caesarean delivery was made by doctors of the First Obstetric Clinic of the Slovak Medical University. The mother signed a statement that she does not wish media attention or media coverage of the births, the TASR newswire wrote.
The last case of births of Siamese twins in Slovakia was that of Marek and Miško Müller who were born on April 10, 2007, joined at the lower torso and belly. A team of experts separated them in September 2007. In October that year, Marek died of liver failure and then in November Michal died also when his digestive system failed.
However, in January 2009, successfully divided Siamese twins – the first in Slovakia - Andrejka and Lucka Tóthová from Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka in Rožňava district celebrated their ninth birthday. In 2000, they were successfully separated in a surgery undertaken by Professor Jaroslav Siman, who died last year. TASR
