“I am meeting requirements of central-right wing voters in Košice and I am withdrawing from my candidacy,” Bašistová said in political discussion of private broadcaster TA3, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “It is my personal decision and I don’t want to be the object of negotiations anymore. Central-right voters deserve one candidate in Košice.”

Recently, independent candidate Ján Dečo cancelled his run for mayor and supported Bašistová.

Bašistová’s decision surprised Sieť’s head Radoslav Procházka, reads the party’s statement, but he sees it as an expression of her personal heroism particularly because she overcame Bauer in the latest polls, according to SITA.
