SIEŤ party of Radoslav Procházka will withdraw its candidate for the post of Bratislava mayor Tatiana Kratochvílová. The coalition of four right wing parties supporting Kratochvílová will announce their decision on October 27, the SITA newswire reported a day before.
The joint coalition of Sieť, Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ-DS), Most-Híd and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) reportedly decided to support a different candidate because Kratochvílová has not succeeded in polls. Another candidate Milan Kňažko who is supported by Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and NOVA has higher chances to win, according to them, SITA reported.
In Bratislava, 10 candidates run for the post of city mayor, while seven of them are independent. According to a MVK polling agency survey, Kňažko would win with 34.4 percent of votes. Incumbent mayor Milan Ftáčnik, who is running as an independent with support from Smer would be second with 33 percent. Ivo Nesrovnal running as an independent after he left SDKÚ would receive 17.6 percent and Sieť’s candidate Kratochvílová would gather 7.6 percent, according to SITA. MVK conducted the survey on 989 people with permanent residence in Bratislava from October 9-14.
Parties should realise that splitting up votes among right candidates is not good, according to Most-Híd chairman Béla Bugár.
“Now comes the time when even our partner realised that just to [propose] someone as a candidate while another candidate has greater chance [to win] is not correct,” Bugár said, as quoted by SITA.
