Chairman of the Sieť party Radoslav Procházka was charged by General Prosecutor’s Office with attempted tax evasion, the Aktuálne.sk website informed on December 2. GPO spokeswoman Andrea Predajňová confirmed this for the website.
The GPO prosecutor “launched a criminal prosecution in the case and charged Radoslav P. of the crime of tax and levy evasion as being planned. A complaint was filed against this decision, and a superior prosecutor will decide on it,” Predajňová said.
The case involving Procházka’s presidential campaign, during which he eventually finished third, started in June when Ordinary People and Independent Personalities chairman Igor Matovič published the information that Procházka wanted to negotiate with him advertising in his regional mailbox newspaper partially off the books.
A recording published on the Vimeo website on July 22 allegedly captures a conversation between Matovič and Procházka on murky financing of the latter’s presidential campaign, the TASR newswire wrote. The two voices also discuss the total spending on campaign which appeared to be twice as big as Procházka had officially declared.
Procházka said he would co-operate with the GPO in the case of recording. “I respect the authority of GPO and will fully cooperate when clarifying this issue,” Procházka told the SITA newswire in reaction.
