Significant wage differentiation throughout Slovakia

THE RATE of real wages growth is varied throughout Slovakia. While in Košice, Bratislava and Trnava regions salaries increased by 8 percent, it is only 4.4 percent in the Prešov region, the daily SME wrote.

The Prešov region traditionally has the lowest average salary - slightly more than Sk12,000 (€310). According to the Slovak Statistics Office, the Slovak salary average for the first half year of 2005 stands at Sk16,381 (€425), but in seven out of eight Slovak regions the average salary is lower than that. Bratislava is the only region where the regional average exceeds the national average. People in the Bratislava region earn in average Sk22,421 (€580). The Košice region has the second highest average salary with Sk16,028 (€415).
