Singaporean President visits Slovakia

Singaporean President Tony Tan will make an official visit to Slovakia together with his wife. The schedule of his visit – to last form November 15 to 18 – includes a meeting with Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, the SITA newswire wrote.

On November 15, he is to receive the Golden Medal of the Comenius University (UK) in Bratislava, the UK press department said.

This will be Tan’s first state visit to central and eastern Europe, according to the Singaporean Foreign Affairs Ministry. His visit to Slovakia coincides with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Singapore-Slovakia diplomatic relations, the channelnewsasia.com website wrote, adding that Tan will also meet Prime Minister Robert Fico, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the Slovak National Council Jana Laššáková.

Alongside Tan, Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth Sam Tan and MPs Penny Low and David Ong will visit Slovakia (after having visited Hungary). The Singaporean president will also be accompanied by a delegation from the Singapore Business Federation.
