The government-sponsored plan of introducing a single health insurer, masterminded by Prime Minister Robert Fico, will be delayed by a year at least.
The Sme daily wrote in its Thursday, July 11 issue that according to the original schedule, private health-insurance companies Dôvera and Union were to wind up their public insurance businesses by the beginning of next year and a single health insurer was to start operating in 2014.
But the schedule seems to have been delayed and the draft transformation law prepared by the Health Ministry postpones the entire plan. INEKO analyst Peter Goliaš told Sme that the probability of completing the project by the foreseen deadline is considerably lower. The ministry, however, officially dismissed the notion that it could be stopped altogether, insisting that the single insurer will become reality as of 2015.
