Vladimír Štolfa, the former head of personnel at the SIS secret service under the 1995-1998 directorship of Ivan Lexa, has been jailed for a year for abusing classified information regarding SIS members.
Štolfa was convicted on October 29 by the Bratislava III district court of having downloaded and removed a file containing the code names and most intimate personal details of SIS personnel on October 9, 1998 before being fired.
The court was unable to determine whether Štolfa had passed the information on to a third party, or whether it had been used to compromise SIS officers.
The SIS under Lexa’s tenure is suspected of having organised acts of state terrorism such as kidnapping the former president’s son and planting a bomb at an opposition party political rally. Lexa himself still faces over 10 criminal charges from his time with the agency.
