Border police arrested six Afghan citizens in the small hours of Tuesday, May 22, morning in the village of Ruská (Košice Region), close to the Slovak-Ukrainian border, the TASR newswire reported, citing Sobrance Border Police Directorate spokesperson Agnesa Kopernická.
According to Kopernická, the Afghans were caught crossing the border illegally thanks to a surveillance camera system. "The foreigners were brought to the Border Control department of the Maťovské Vojkovce police corps to be identified. The group consisted of a man, two women and three children aged nine, six and three, respectively," she said. After their arrest, the Afghans expressed their intention to seek asylum in Slovakia. "In this respect, they will be transferred to the detention camp in Humenné, where they will undergo appropriate asylum procedures," said Kopernická.
