Skanska wins bid to build Višňové tunnel

The consortium of construction companies Skanska SK and Strabag has won the public competition over the construction of the stretch of highway between Lietavská Lúčka-Dubná Skala through Višňové, all located in Žilina Region, which is part of the cross-country D1 highway from Bratislava to Košice, the TASR newswire reported on November 23.

The consortium submitted the lowest bid for the 13.5-kilometre section with €338.3 million. The state estimates that the construction of the whole section, including the tunnel, could reach €896.5 million.

“Yes, I can confirm that we have received the letter of acceptance from NDS, by which the investor accepted our offer,” general director of Skanska, Magdaléna Dobišová, told TASR

Construction work on the Višňové tunnel is expected to last from five to six years. After completion, the tunnel is to become the longest vehicular tunnel in Slovakia.
