Žilina Mayor Ján Slota claims to have information that some deputies of the ruling Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) have direct links with the Hungarian intelligence service.
Slota says that those SMK deputies who sit on the parliamentary committee to oversee the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) might be in contact with Hungary's intelligence officers, the news wire TASR wrote.
"I could name witnesses but, by exposing them, I would put them in danger. That would be as good as criminal," added Slota, at the same time blaming SIS for inaction in the matter.
Slota, the former leader of the Slovak National Party (SNS), believes that SMK is out to disintegrate the Slovak state. While Slovaks are in euphoria over being in the European Union, Hungarians here are working hard for their autonomy and for separation from our sovereign territory, he says.
László Koteles and Iván Farkaš, SMK MPs on the Committee to oversee SIS, ruled out any links with the Hungarian intelligence service.
"Now, as always, Mr. Slota is lying because he needs to persuade people to vote for the SNS," Koteles told TASR. Both men are considering legal action for defamation.
