ŽILINA mayor Ján Slota, who is also the head of the ruling Slovak National Party (SNS), has confirmed that he will again run for the post of mayor in the coming municipal elections in December.
The SNS' ruling partners, Smer and the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, say that they will support Slota's candidacy, the TASR newswire wrote.
If Slota is re-elected, he will become the longest serving mayor of a Slovak town since the fall of communism in 1989. He has been mayor of Žilina since 1990, and another term would be his fifth in the post.
