A deputy can be denied his salary and bonuses if he or she fails to attend four or more meeting days of parliament or its committees without a proper reason, the law states.

József Berényi, a Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) deputy and the chairman of the committee, said that he had decided to take the step now, despite Slota’s long record of absenteeism, because he had only headed the committee since July and October was the first month during which the committee had had several meetings.

Berényi said that since he began chairing the human rights committee, he had not seen Slota at a single meeting, Sme reported.
