THE PARLIAMENTARY committee for conflict of interests has started disciplinary proceedings against Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Ján Slota. They called on Slota to present documents showing that he paid for a private flight he took to Croatia as well as a flight on a military plane, an L-29 Delfín, the SITA newswire reported.
Opposition deputies as well as deputies from the ruling coalition Smer party voted in favour of the action, while SNS deputies abstained from voting. The complaints were filed by Transparency International Slovakia who questioned whether Slota’s had improperly accepted gifts by travelling on the aeroplanes. If he fails to prove that he actually paid for the trips, it could be classified as accepting a gift which could lead to Slota being fined up to the equivalent of an MP’s annual salary.
The SNS has rejected the accusations against its leader. The party’s spokesperson told SITA that Slota would have no problems explaining the matters to the committee if he is asked to do so.
