On August 25, the session of the Parliamentary committee on incompatibility of functions was expected to discuss two motions filed by the NGO Transparency International Slovensko concerning aeroplane flights made by MP and SNS chairman Ján Slota. However, committee members from coalition parties failed to arrive; just six opposition MPs were in attendance so the committee could not deal with the issue, the SITA newswire reported.
MP Július Brocka sees this incident as an intention by the ruling coalition to provide cover to Slota and his property matters and other activities termed as scandalous by the media and the opposition. Twelve ruling coalition MPs apologised for their absences, citing workloads or health conditions as the reasons.
Slota was not obliged to attend although his conduct was supposed to be investigated. According to committee member and MP Peter Miššík(from SDKÚ), Slota should appear before the committee only after being asked to do so. To review his case the committee must have quorum. The next session of the committee is planned for either September 2 or September 9, SITA wrote. SITA
