Jean-Claude Mignon, head of the French delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg stated on April 28 that the failure of most of the Slovak delegation to attend a session earlier in the week was “regrettable”, the TASR newswire reported.
Mignon stated that he thinks the President of the Assembly, Mevlut Cavusoglu, should call on the Slovak side to explain why and to prevent future no-shows, TASR wrote. Only one Slovak delegate attended, József Berényi, who is a MP from the opposition Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK).
Most of Slovakia’s Council of Europe delegates – Oľga Nachtmannová (Smer), Sergej Chelemendik (Slovak National Party, SNS), Pavol Kubovič (Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, SDKÚ) and Peter Pelegrini (Smer) – are also MPs of the Slovak parliament and attended a parliamentary session in Bratislava that coincided with the PACE session. Berényi said, however, that PACE schedules are known months in advance and that the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Pavol Paška, could have arranged the Slovak legislative session on a different date.
