Relations with Hungary are, according to Slovakia's Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek, very important for Slovakia, as it is its fourth biggest trade partner, the SITA newswire wrote. The minister further told a press conference on February 23, after a meeting with Hungary's Minister of National Development and Economy Gordon Bajnai in the Hungarian town of Komárom on the Slovak-Hungarian border, that it has been proven that such meetings are necessary.
Annual trade between Slovakia and Hungary represents approximately €5 billion with a moderate surplus for Slovakia of about €450 million.
“There is eminent interest in this mutual relationship between the two countries continuing,” Minister Jahnátek said. He continued by saying that the countries today need much closer contact than they have had to date. SITA
