Slovak appointed special EU envoy

THE EU has appointed Slovak diplomat Ján Kubiš as its special envoy to Central Asia. Foreign affairs ministers of the 25 EU member states approved his nomination and mandate on July 18 in Brussels.

The appointment of the former Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to this post was approved by member states in the EU Political and Security Committee in early July. EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana nominated Kubiš to the post, the TASR news agency wrote.
