Slovak authorities are launching an investigation of satellite TV operator Skylink for imposing fees for digital services it provides. Telecommunication Office spokesperson Roman Vavro told the Pravda daily that the start of the investigation has been postponed since they must first determine whether the Telecommmunication Office or the Slovak Trade Inspection has the authority to pursue Skylink in this matter. Both institutions agreed to cooperate in the case.
Companies Skylink and CS Link began issuing a new service charge at €1.2 per month for their services at the end of May; a charge which their customers were not required to pay in previous years, Pravda wrote in its Tuesday, August 7, issue. Skylink states its “basic programme services” are free of charge, and so – since it is in fact charging a fee – it is also being investigated by the Czech Telecoms Office, as it also operates in the Czech Republic. Czech Telecoms Office spokesperson František Malina opined that it has no legal means to prevent Skylink and CS Link from charging the fees.
