Representatives of the Slovak Embassy in Iraq in March handed over sonography apparatus to a charity organisation called Caritas Iraq, the Slovak Catholic Charity said on Thursday, April 19, the TASR newswire reported.
The ultrasound-based diagnostic imaging device, worth €7,000, was provided by the Slovak Catholic Charity and St Elizabeth College of Health Care and Social Work in Bratislava, and should primarily help in prenatal care. The device was installed at a health centre in Baghdad run by an Iraqi charity which cares primarily for poor people.
Nabil Nissan, director of Caritas Iraq, praised the co-operation with the Slovak partners and the involvement of Slovak Ambassador Miloslav Naď, noting that "for poor expectant Iraqi mothers, examining their future children isn’t such an easy and accessible process".
