THE CENTRAL bank, the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), will only exchange coinage in Slovak crowns for euros until January 2, 2014. After that day, exchanging the currencies will no longer be possible, NBS spokesperson Petra Pauerová told The Slovak Spectator.
The NBS is open every business day from 7:30 until 12:00 for currency exchange. The exchange offices are at the NBS headquarters in Bratislava, as well as at its branch offices in Nove Zámky, Banska Bystrica, Žilina, Košice and Poprad.
There is no deadline for exchanging banknotes of the old currency.
According to the NBS data, there are still over 19 million banknotes in circulation, worth Sk2.4 billion, and about 391.4 million coins worth Sk718.9 million.
Slovakia joined the eurozone and converted to the euro as of January 1, 2009.
