The Slovak Defence Ministry has cited flaws in the selection procedure for its decision to halt the despatch of an official to represent the ministry at the Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the EU in Brussels. The appointment was cancelled on July 19, at the direction of the new Slovak defence minister, Ľubomír Galko.
The official in question, Aneta Teplicová, was supposed to be sent to Brussels as of August 1, 2010, the SITA newswire wrote. The reason given for the decision to cancel her posting was a breach of the Organisational Rules of the Ministry of Defence and the rules of selection, preparation, and posting at foreign missions. It said that for the position of Slovak representative at the European Defence Agency (EDA), an EU body which is part of the union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, no formal selection procedure, which would normally include a demonstration of the required qualifications, was carried out.
