The first Slovak deputies to the European Parliament (EP) will not be paid €8600 as originally planned, but will be paid Sk36,000 (€885)instead, the daily SME writes.
The foreign affairs ministers of the European Union member countries have failed to reach an agreement over a unified salary for the EP deputies.
Germany, France, and Austria are against paying the new EP deputies by EU standards. They say the EP deputies should receive as much as their colleagues in the national parliament.
The critics also objected that if they were paid €8600, Slovak deputies to the EP would make four times more than the Slovak prime minister and 25 times more than an average Slovak voter.
