A Slovak detector of solar elements flew into space on Monday, July 18. It will study the charged particles as part of the Russian radio-telescope Radio-Astron, the Sme daily wrote in its Thursday, July 21, issue.
“Sending the device into space is part of an agreement with the Russians,” the constructor of the detector, Ján Baláž of the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, explained to Sme. “This is one part of their project. We made the device here, in the academy.” The Russian telescope will be even more precise than the Hubble space telescope. It is meant to research black holes and pulsating stars.
