SLOVAK diplomat Lubomir Kopaj no longer heads the mission of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in the republic of Montenegro.
Kopaj, who was appointed to the post a year ago in October 2012, with the Foreign Affairs Ministry calling his appointment a success of Slovak diplomacy and a confirmation of its active role in the organisation, is now back in Bratislava with no explanation as to why he left.
“Mr Kopaj left the OSCE mission in Montenegro at his own request,” the ministry’s spokesperson, Boris Gandel, told the Sme daily.
Kopaj left the post in spring this year, according to Sme, which Montenegro’s media reported over the summer, speculating that his quick departure from the mission might have been caused by suspicions over his bullying and harrassing his employees, Sme wrote.
Kopaj was managing 44 people at the mission.
It is also known that Kopaj was a registered collaborator of the communist-era secret police, the StB, which means he cannot be granted security clearance under Slovak law. Such clearance is however not required for the post he held, Sme wrote.
The OSCE has not commented on the case so far.
