Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek lobbied in Brussels on May 27 for Slovakia’s bid to locate the headquarters of the Agency for Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) in the country. The minister highlighted the advantageous geographical location of Bratislava as well as the country’s well-developed energy sector, the SITA newswire wrote.
The Slovak economy minister reminded diplomats and representative of European institutions that the region of Bratislava - Budapest - Vienna has a great potential and is expected to achieve the highest economic growth within the EU in the future. Jahnátek said another positive factor in favour of Slovakia is its well-developed power sector.
“It all gives us certain assurances that Bratislava can take care of the energy sector and knows how to use its experience also in the international context,” the minister added.
He said that if Slovakia was selected to be the home of the ACER headquarters, it would be a kind of an appreciation of Slovakia’s competencies in the power sector. According to Minister Jahnátek, Slovakia has the experience in power sector regulation which its competitors, Slovenia and Romania, do not have. SITA
