THE FOREIGN Ministry is considering opening new Slovak embassies in Lithuania, Estonia and Luxembourg this year, according to a list of Slovak foreign policy priorities for 2006 that was recently approved by the government, the TASR news agency reported.
In addition, the ministry plans to open a representative office in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, and to send Slovak diplomats to Moldova, Georgia and Ethiopia, which is the headquarters of the African Union.
The ministry believes Slovak diplomatic representation must be increased in these regions because Slovakia became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on January 1, 2006.
The ministry also plans to open honorary consulates in two more US cities, Boston and Las Vegas.
Slovakia has 55 embassies, 1 representative office, 10 consulates and 8 permanent missions abroad.
