COLLEGE lecturer and graduate of a visual-arts academy, Jozef Jackanič, exhibited his work in the Japanese city of Gotemba at the end of 2013. In February 2014, his creations were presented at the Slovak Embassy to Japan from where it was also lent to presentations in Tokyo and other parts of the country.
The 28 works selected for the exhibition could have been seen by the Japanese visitors first in the house of culture in Gotemba – a city the size of Prešov (i.e. about 90,000 inhabitants), and later in a private gallery and at the embassy, Jackanič told the TASR newswire. Slovak Ambassador Michal Kottman stressed that it was the very first individual exhibition of a Slovak visual artist in Japan. The Japanese exhibition was a result of an exchange: in May 2013, one of the most prominent Japanese conte-mporary masters of calligra-phy, Master Torimyia, exhibited his works in the Átrium Gallery in Prešov.
