A world premiere of Slovak director Mira Fornay's film Líštičky (Little Foxes) will be shown at the 66th international film festival in Venice in September, TASR was told on July 26 by Juraj Buzalka, one of the film's producers.
According to Buzalka, the fact that the film has been put into the festival's schedule is an extraordinary success for Slovak cinematography. “It is the first Slovak film since 1989 to compete at this prestigious international festival,” said Buzalka.
The festival's section with a maximum of seven debuts from all around the world, in which Liíštičky film has been included, was set up 24 years ago as an independent section of the international festival in Venice – in keeping with the tradition of Critics' Week in Cannes and at the Berlinale.
Fornay's film, made as a Slovak-Czech-Irish co-production, takes place in contemporary Dublin and tells a story of an untold past, sisterly love and forgiveness. Its premiere in Slovakia is scheduled for this autumn.
