HUNDREDS of companies and firms that are hooked up to the net lack any security and their personal data, accounting documentation and safety cameras are freely accessible through the Internet, the daily SME reports.
The daily has tested the assumption that Slovak firms and households have poor protection for their data. They examined the security of customers of the biggest Internet providers using DSL technology.
SME discovered that it could access the security cameras at a petrol station in eastern Slovakia. Anyone can not only watch the camera recordings but also turn the camera in such a way that the owner has no control over it.
Tens of firms display data on what Internet pages their employees visit and on when they arrive and leave from work.
Some companies accidentally give access to any uninvited Internet visitors to watch their employees work live due to wrongly set industrial cameras.
