Slovakia’s footballers defeated Northern Ireland 2:0 in Belfast to move just one point away from qualifying for next year’s World Cup in South Africa, the Sme daily reported.
The athletes, coached by Vladimír Weiss, secured a leading position in the 3rd group of the qualification pool from the European zone, but it was not quite enough to assure their advance to the next round, as the Slovenians also won in Maribor, smoothly over Poland, 3:0. According to Sme, both Slovakia and Slovenia may advance to the World Cup.
The Slovak goals were scored by Šesták and Hološko, who had come into the match as a substitute. Slovak fans can watch their football heroes on the evening of October 10 when they will host Slovenia and fight for the direct pass to the World Cup.
