The Slovak government on Wednesday, August 18, approved an allocation of €13.3 million from the treasury to finance flood relief measures, the TASR newswire reported.
According to the Finance Ministry’s document, towns and villages have spent the most in tackling the effects of the floods – €11.8 million – therefore money should be allocated to them by September 10. Other linked expenses will be assessed and dealt with in an upcoming report.
The final costs of the flood relief work cannot yet be determined, the TASR newswire wrote. The final numbers will be included into a report about the floods which will be submitted by the agriculture, environment and interior ministries. According to preliminary data, the amount could be between €600 and €650 million. Of this amount, €250 million represents damage to state assets and €325.8 million to property of the towns and villages and their residents.
The state allocated €25 million to areas affected by earlier floods in late May and early June, of which €22.5 million has been distributed to those suffering losses.
