Slovak government appoints Šefčovič as EC Commissioner

Slovakia's Ambassador to the European Union Maroš Šefčovič will take up the post of European Commissioner for education, training and culture, the Slovak government decided on Wednesday, September 23, the TASR newswire wrote.

The cabinet acted after the current Commissioner Ján Figeľ resigned from the post as of October 1 following his election as Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) chairman on September 19. Šefčovič will be a member of the current Commission of Jose Manuel Barroso, whose mandate expires on October 31. TASR
