On March 11, the government approved the Transport Ministry’s proposal to conclude a contract for the so-called second package of public-private partnership (PPP) projects for road construction in Slovakia, the TASR newswire wrote.
The contract covers the preparation of project documentation, the implementation of construction work, financing, operating and maintaining stretches of the R1 priority road from Nitra to Selenec (12.6 kilometres),from Selenec to Beladice (19 kilometres), from Beladice to Tekovské Nemce (14.3 kilometres) and the northern bypass ring road around Banská Bystrica (5.7 kilometres). The contract covers a period of 30 years.
The Vinci/ABN AMRO consortium of companies won the public tender for the second package in December of last year. PPP projects in Slovakia are designed to finance the construction of approximately 150 kilometres of priority roads. The costs are estimated at €4.17 billion.
The Slovak government divided the planned road sections into three packages. According to Transport Ministry State Secretary Milan Mojs, the government is interested in further PPP projects and the third package should be prepared by the end of March. TASR
