Support for enlargement of the European Union will probably be included in the programme statement of the new centre-right Slovak government, the SITA newswire wrote.
According to a draft of the programme statement that the newswire received from sources close to the government on July 21, “Slovakia will support efforts to revive the process of enlargement of the EU. We expect an acceleration of accession talks with Iceland and an imminent completion of accession talks with Croatia,” the draft statement says.
“We want an active European policy, reflecting the fact that Slovakia not only belongs in the EU but also takes part in its formation,” the draft continues. SITA wrote that the programme will probably include the theses of the Strategy Europe 2020 which Slovakia perceives as a necessary instrument for optimal budgetary position in a multi-year financial framework, strengthening of energy security, and support for goals in the area of climate change.
