Slovak gross foreign debt down

Total gross foreign debt was $36.7 billion (Sk908.5 billion) at the end of May 2007 in Slovakia, which is a decrease of $300 million y-o-y and translates into $820 per person.

Total long-term foreign debt increased by $800 million in May, while the short-term foreign debt decreased by $1.1 billion in the same period. The ratio of the total short-term foreign debt in the total gross foreign debt decreased month-on-month by 2.5 percent as of May 31 down to 48 percent of the total.

Net foreign indebtedness – calculated as the difference between gross foreign debt representing National Slovak Bank and government liabilities, commercial banks and business sphere liabilities (except for capital participation) and foreign assets representing NBS foreign currency reserves, commercial banks foreign assets, business sphere foreign assets, except capital participation – was at $3.9 billion as of May 31, 2007.
