The Slovak Information Service (SIS), one of Slovakia’s intelligence agencies, potentially alongside other state security agencies, appears to have acquired unprecedented surveillance capabilities under the fourth government of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Complete control over virtually any mobile phone and some other electronic devices might be now within reach of these agencies, writes the Denník N daily.
The newspaper has confirmed through four independent sources with ties to the security community that recent acquisitions by the Slovak government include a sophisticated system capable of monitoring microphones, cameras, and screens on mobile phones, as well as extracting content from all communication applications, including encrypted ones. The sources predominantly indicate the controversial Israeli IT solution, Pegasus, as the tool in question.
On Tuesday, September 3, Juraj Krúpa, a member of the opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), hinted at these developments.
