The Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic confirmed on April 15, the verdict of Slovakia’s Special Court from April 2009 which convicted Štefan Marták, a judge from Čadca, of accepting bribes and abuse of the position of a public official, the SITA newswire reported.
According to the chairman of the Slovak Supreme Court's panel of judges, the court handled the case very carefully and took into
consideration all evidence which is why the Supreme Court panel turned down the appeal filed both by the prosecutor and the judge against the decision of the Special Court.
The Special Court sentenced Judge Marták to three years and six months, levied a financial sanction and banned him from performing his duties as a judge, SITA newswire wrote.
This is the first case in which a judge in Slovakia has been found guilty of corruption.
