According to the Trexima firm, which studies labour costs, Slovakia has the lowest minimum and average national wage of any country either in the EU or in central Europe.
While the Slovak minimum wage works out to 0.68 euro per hour, the Czech Republic offers 0.88, Poland 1.22 and Hungary 1.21. Luxembourg, meanwhile, pays at least 9.7 euros per hour, 14 times the minimum wage rate in Slovakia.
