The formula for establishing the monthly salary of Slovak MPs triples the country's average nominal monthly pay for the previous year, currently about Sk14,365 (€356), the news wire TASR wrote.

Thus, Slovak MPs receive a monthly wage of Sk43,200 (€1,070), which, however, does not include lump-sum compensations or additional payments for membership in parliamentary committees.

MEP salaries are based on those of their respective countries' national parliament members, or national ministers. For example, Italian MEPs receive more than €11,700 and those from Austria about €7,500, while Spain's MEPs get only €2,540 a month.

But these basic salaries are supplemented with various additional benefits, such as travel cost compensations, accommodation allowances, and social and educational benefits.
