Following the dismissal of the head of the Military Defence Intelligence (VOS) counter-intelligence service Pavol Brychta following a scandal over the wiretapping of journalists under former defence minister Ľubomír Galko (Freedom and Solidarity (SaS)), a new scandal connected with military intelligence has now surfaced, the Sme daily wrote on Thursday, March 15.
Prime Minister Iveta Radičová (Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ)), who has been the acting defence minister since Galko’s dismissal, has suspended the head of the main Military Intelligence Service (VSS), Roman Mikulec. Neither Radičová, nor the General Prosecutor’s Office, which is dealing with Mikulec’s case, would confirm the reason for his dismissal. Sme, however, reported that Mikulec had allegedly lied in order to prevent a colleague from being granted security clearance.
