Liberal MP Zuzana Števulová (Progressive Slovakia) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Interior Ministry’s responses to her October queries regarding the defective online booking system of the Foreigners’ Police and the investigation into alleged profiteering from appointment slots within the system.
“This system remains unfixed,” the MP said in the debating chamber on Thursday, December 5, reacting to the ministry’s claim that everything should now be functioning properly. “The reality is that appointments are still unavailable,” she added.
According to foreigners who contacted The Slovak Spectator, issues with the reservation system persist. They report frequent crashes and difficulties in booking appointments.
“Many are already desperate,” Števulová said.
She cited the example of a student from Peru who attempted to visit multiple Foreigners’ Police departments across Slovakia, queuing up just to secure an appointment for a residence permit as they only had a visa. Eventually, according to the MP, they decided to leave Slovakia. Števulová also highlighted universities that had to negotiate additional appointments for international students, who would otherwise be unable to study in the country.
