An MP who is a member of Slovakia’s Civic Conservative Party (OKS), Peter Osuský, would like to make denying, understating or defending the crimes of Communism a crime by proposing an amendment to the Criminal Code. Osuský is a member of the Most-Híd deputy caucus as OKS ran candidates in last June’s parliamentary election under the Most-Híd candidate list.
"Although parliament is a legislative body, there exists quite serious dislike of MP-proposed amendments. It almost always meets criticism when an MP develops activities," Osuský told the SITA newswire, explaining why he is choosing to have his idea considered as a government proposal. He said he does not really care whether the law bears his name; he considers it important to push through the goal.
According to Osuský, the Ministry of Justice led by Lucia Žitňanská could prepare such an amendment in April. Osuský said he will also discuss the issue with other parliamentary caucuses.
