Slovak MPs will carry out a parliamentary enquiry at the Environment Ministry according to a proposal by Slovak Democratic and Chirstian Union (SDKÚ) MP Pavol Frešo's which was passed by parliament’s Agriculture and Environment Committee on Tuesday, October 13.
Frešo had submitted the same proposal in September, but on that occasion it was rejected by MPs. According to him, the inquiry is needed because the contract between Slovakia and Interblue Group concerning sale of Slovakia’s excess carbon-dioxide emissions quotas is still in force, and information about the sales has still not been disseminated to Slovak MPs. "I consider it quite serious; it is the worst situation we have dealt with so far," Frešo told the TASR newswire. The opposition has pointed out that the carbon-dioxide emissions quotas in question were sold to the shadowy Interblue Group at significantly lower prices than those obtained by other countries. TASR
