Environmental NGOs Via Iuris and Greenpeace are set to deliver a letter to President Ivan Gašparovič on Thursday, March 18, in which they call on him not to sign the amended Act on Environmental Impact Assessment (the so-called EIA), the TASR newswire wrote on the same day.
The NGOs want Gašparovič to return the legislation to Parliament. They object to the sections of the law that exclude the public from being informed about processes concerning the licensing of nuclear facilities. According to the organisations, such passages contradict with the European Union laws and the Slovak Constitution. The NGOs say that Gašparovič should propose to the Parliament to omit the alleged sections when re-drafting the law.
