A Slovak citizen, Juraj Badi, aged 45, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in the United Kingdom after being convicted of sexually abusing a British girl over a 2-year period. Badi’s crimes led to the girl becoming pregnant at the age of 15. The crimes were committed in the northern English city of Bradford, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote on Thursday, September 8.
In his defence, Badi’s lawyer referred to cultural and social differences between the UK and Slovakia, claiming that the Slovak judicial system would consider a relationship between a middle-aged man and a girl of 15 to be acceptable. The fact that DNA analysis confirmed that he had fathered a child by the victim was an aggravating circumstance. Badi had previously been convicted of paedophilia and rape in Slovakia, for which he was sentenced to seven and eight years. British investigators are further examining whether Badi’s crime was the only one he committed in the UK, or whether there may have been more.
