The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Finance, Budget and Currency, Jozef Burian, will write to his own Smer party to correct an apparent shortcomings in its accounting for last year. "I received an e-mail about this yesterday at 11.25pm and I am going to write to them and give them a notice as I do in cases involving other parties," Burian told the SITA newswire on May 19.
The Fair-Play Alliance turned to the Parliamentary Committee for Finance, Budget and Currency based on information published by the Sme daily. According to the daily, the internet website of Smer's regional organisation in Prešov listed a sponsorship donation for the party dated September 18, 2009, from the Movyrob Prešov company. The owner of the company, Miroslav Mularčík, confirmed to the daily that the company made a donation to the party. The contribution, however, is not featured in the party’s annual report for 2009 among received donations, the alliance points out.
Head of the Fair-Play Alliance Zuzana Wienk said that in line with the law on political parties and political movements, annual reports must include all donations to a party. The legislation stipulates that parliament will call on the party to eliminate uncovered shortcomings. The Finance Ministry should halt funding for the party's operation from the state budget until the shortcomings are eliminated.
