SLOVAKS living in Poland have filed an official complaint with the Polish authorities alleging potential manipulation of census data. Several Slovaks reported that when visited by census takers, their nationality was written down in pencil rather than pen, said 1udomír Molitoris, secretary of the central committee of a Slovak association in Poland.
The Polish statistics office has denied any manipulation of the census data, and explained that census takers had been instructed to use pen only for completing the census forms. The office suggested that if pens were used it may have been done to avoid mistakes. An estimated 20,000 ethnic Slovaks live in southern Poland.
