“At the same time, a motion was filed to the District prosecutor’s office in Revúca to issue an arrest warrant,” Valaštek told SITA.

The accused mayor should have appeared before an investigator in the town of Revúca for questioning. Police waited for him in the early morning of Tuesday, July 13 in front of his house in Tornaľa and took him into their patrol car. At his request, the police patrol accompanied him to the building of the municipal office where the mayor said he wanted to get some documents. However, he slammed the door shut on the police officers and disappeared in the building.

“He has not been found yet,” the director of the Revúca Police Corps said and the police admitted they made a mistake and according to Valaštek consequences will be drawn.

Mayor Dubovský had been found guilty of abusing powers of a public office holder and accused of breaching duties related to administration of entrusted property. However, the verdict is not yet in force.

The spokeswoman for Banská Bystrica County Court, Nina Spurná, told SITA that no motion to take Dubovský into custody had been delivered to the court by July 13. She stated that the court hearing in June had been adjourned to September.

Dubovský resigned as mayor of Tornaľa in November 2009 after being accused of abuse of powers. He was re-elected in supplementary elections held in May of this year.
