In almost 20 house searches across Slovakia, large volumes of child pornography and 29 suspects have been detained, thought to be part of an international child pornography ring, the SITA newswire reported.
The police action code-named Typhoon was an investigation in Austria that disclosed two websites serving for distribution of child pornography in 2007. In a few hours the police recorded over 100,000 log-ins and more than 10,000 downloads of illegal content from the websites including some from Slovakia, SITA wrote.
After the Austrian raid, Interpol has joined the action. In Slovakia, police disclosed 55 IPs allocated to Slovak providers and almost 30 suspects. Eight house searches were conducted in Bratislava, two in Žilina, Trnava and Trebišov each and one in Banská Bystrica, Zvolen, Nové Zámky, Galanta and Prievidza.
According to SITA, the police have seized over 6,000 CDs and DVDs, notebooks, desktop computers, USB keys, memory cards, hard discs, cassettes, mobile phones, pictures and other things. The seized things are undergoing forensic examination.
The Europe-wide police operation included searches of hundreds of homes in 18 European countries, including Slovakia, as well as properties in Canada. SITA
